KB856227 | HOW TO: Open a Corrupted Excel File
When Excel detects a corrupted workbook upon opening, it automatically starts File Recovery mode and attempt sto repair the workbook. If that doesn't work try using the manual process to recover your workbook.
1.) Click File > Open
2.) Click the location and folder that contains the corrupted workbook
3.) In the Open dialog box, select the corrupted workbook
4.) Click the arrow next to the Open button, and then click Open and Repair
5.) To revocer as much of the workbookdata as possible. pick Repair
